The Annoying Network

I came across a moronic article on line the other day. Nick Bilton of the New York Times wrote it, and it asked in no uncertain terms where his cut of the Face Book IPO was. Mr. Bilton is of the opinion that because Facebook uses his personal information and sells it for profit that he is entitled to a piece of the billions that are expected to be raised in the IPO. He even quoted an equally idiotic professor of economics that suggested that this was an opportunity to create a two way model that could profit both the business and the customer. I guess professor Ioannides has forgotten what country we reside in because capitalism doesn’t...

My Son…. The Purist.

Sometimes purity just doesn’t pay. There are all kinds of purists, from Star Trek fans who (like me) who HATE the reboot of the series by J.J. Abrams (seriously, what the hell is with all the lens flares? It made me feel like I just had cataract surgery); to the language purists who refuse to let language evolve; in fact there are purists in just about every pursuit. This brings me to my son, Matthew; the game purist. Now I suppose I have some blame in this, I extolled the virtue of playing your character true to yourself. That some games provide open worlds and on my first playthrough I usually play it as if I were in that world and...

Either Keifer Sutherland has been on Ninja Think Tank or a lot of other people made the same observation I did about his new show, Touch, looking a lot like 24. The folks at Fox must have thought the same thing, I saw a new commercial for Touch, and not only did it look nothing like 24, but...

The Lightning Rant – The 2012 New Year Editi...

So Fox is putting on yet another uninspired animated show on Sunday night. The latest cannon fodder is Napoleon Dynamite. Does anybody else think that maybe this would have been a better idea about seven years ago? I think the only people celebrating New Year’s Eve are people looking for a reason to drink and party and people that are desperately trying to run away from 2011. Sometimes those are the same people, and if you find yourself at a bar with them on New Year’s Eve and you see them crying, you need to call a cab and get the hell out of there. Something is going to blow. I defy anybody to watch the teaser for Touch, the new Keifer...

The Lightning Rant – The Christmas Edition Dec27

The Lightning Rant &...

Tis’ the season, and all that crap. For my last lightning rant of 2011 I thought that I would write a column that would point out some ideal gifts that may or may not end up under the tree this year. It’s not an original idea but I thought maybe I could put a NTT twist on it. So here are...

I Want My Cake and Freedom, Too

I read a story today that talked about a financial and moral conundrum that a Seattle school district was facing. Several years ago, the school made a decision to replace the junk food and soda in the vending machines with healthier options. This was lauded at the time as a positive move in the fight against childhood obesity, and despite the protests of the Frito Lays and Coca Colas of the world they were successful in making this change. Fast forward three short years, and the school district is reconsidering their move and pondering whether Twinkies, Doritos and Mountain Dew should be made readily accessible again. The reason? Well, three...

What’s more annoying? The guy that tailgates you on the freeway or the guy that leaves 15 car-lengths between him and the car in front of him so he has plenty of time to react after he finishes his text? I watched the first episode of the new series Luck. When Nick Nolte’s character looked...

Hey Archie Manning – shut the hell up already. Your kids are millionaires, live a life most will only dream about and are adored by entire cities. Stop complaining about what situations will make your son happier, you screwed San Diego and made Eli into a prima donna when you declared he...

Ok, if you’re here for the review lets get this over with: It’s 10 Shurikens out of 10. Seriously, go buy this game. It is so fucking good that you’ll be sucked away from other things, important things, things so important your wife wrote them down so you would remember them-...

I could fill an entire column with what I don’t like about the Williams sisters, but I won’t do that right now.  Venus had a wardrobe problem during an exhibition match this week. Which makes this about 50 times she’s had a clothing problem or a jewelry problem or a hair problem.  For...
